Hampton's Style
Posted by Deb Daniel on
One of my favourite styles are “The Hampton's”. After all, this style is inspired by the sea, so our Australian coastal locations which makes it the perfect decorating style to reflect our surroundings.
Light, airy, modern and sophisticated - it’s a classic style that will remain timeless for many years to come.
So how exactly can you achieve a Hampton's style home for yourself? It all comes down to choosing the right colours, textures, furniture and furnishings to help bring this look to life. Hopefully my tips below will help you achieve your dream look?
- Work with a neutral colour palette
Hampton's style interior decorating is always centred around a neutral, coastal colour palette. When you walk into a Hampton's style home, the first thing you’ll usually notice is the crisp white walls and timber floorboards. It’s all about keeping things light, bright and breezy.
Along with the whites and timbers, you’ll also find more neutral colours like cream, sand and ivory, complimented by beachy colours like navy and other soft blues. What colours do you see while you are walking on a quiet beach and gazing out to sea? These are the colours that you should bring into your home to achieve be a true Hampton’s feel throughout your home.
- Include natural and organic textures
Another key feature to creating a Hampton's style home is to include furniture and decor in natural textures. Try to include organic materials like rattan, wicker, jute, linen and timber when it comes to furnishing your home.
Layering these natural textures will also help to create a sense of warmth and comfort, so don’t be afraid to mix and match these materials. Pieces like jute rugs, linen sofas, rattan baskets and timber tables, buffets and consoles all work well together in a Hampton's style home
- Light it up!
Lighting is a huge feature of any Hampton's style home. The more natural light, the better, avoid heavy draping and instead keep your window treatments as minimal as possible. Exposed windows or sheer cotton drapes work best.
When it comes to pendant lights and other light fittings, look for oversized rattan or woven lights to help bring some more natural texture into the space. Or for a more traditional Hampton's look, metal fixtures in black, steel or copper can be a beautiful contrast.
- Use your artwork or large mirrors to tie it all together!
Artwork and large mirrors can be a great way to tie your design elements together and create a look that flows throughout the home. When choosing art for a Hampton's style home, shades of blue tend to work best to really highlight that coastal feel. Any artwork that reminds you of the beach or the ocean is always going to be a big winner. Instead of artwork consider adding large decorative mirrors in black, gold, steel and copper to add an illusion of much more space. Nothing looks more elegant than your furnishings mirrored throughout the space particularly if you have a smaller room in mind.
